Friars Signs for Newry Wed 08th Aug 2001 18:39
Released Northern Irish winger Sean Friars has signed for Newry Town. Friars was released by Town at the end of last season after making just one appearance as sub while at Portman Road. Friars also blotted his copybook in his latter days at Town when he went to court over a number of driving offences.

Reports this morning say that Town and James Scowcroft have held clear the air talks and that the club well aware of Leicester's interest in the striker. Neither seems keen for the West Suffolk man to leave, but usually reliable sources have told TWTD that a deal with Leicester could well be in the cards.

Town chairman David Sheepshanks has re-iterated that there are no plans for Town to enter the stock market. As Town have developed over the last few years the question has often been put the the chairman, but despite regularly speaking about the issue the directors have no current plans to take the club in this direction.
